During the process of selecting insurance to protect your assets, there are many factors to consider in addition to price:

1. What type of organization will you be dealing with?

  • Independent Agency - These agencies are normally licensed with several insurance companies. They can "shop" for the best insurance company to fit your situation. These agents are"self-employed". They represent the customer's best interest.

  • Captive Agents - These agents typically represent only one company. State Farm, Nationwide and Allstate are common examples.

  • Direct Writers - In many cases, these companies do not use agents. Transactions are handled directly by company employees. Geico and Liberty Mutual are common examples.
2. Will you be able to speak with the same people when you call with questions,
    changes, or need advice?

3. How financially strong is the company issuing the policy (A.M. Best Link).

4. Does the agent have the ability to issue checks directly for small claims?

5. Does the company use "Aftermarket" parts for vehicle repairs? The best
companies only use original factory parts.

6. Are you able to select the repair facility of YOUR choice, or does the company
insist on you visiting a claims service center?

7. How long are rates guaranteed? Many companies can adjust rates every six
    months.
